Maths at Bramley

Miss Oliver says… we want our children to be confident mathematicians who can apply their knowledge in everyday life. We aim to ensure that ALL children are fluent with number facts, being able to use them in a range of different ways. Children will make connections and draw conclusions using their mathematical knowledge, being able to understand and solve a range of problems.

Children are given opportunities to…

Fluently recall number facts such as number bonds and times tables.

To apply their number knowledge and reason about what is already known in order to work out what is unknown.

Use both their reasoning and fluency skills to solve problems.

Curriculum Overview

We use the HIAS planning which is a carefully sequenced scheme of work that covers the National Curriculum objectives. The scheme comes with a variety of supporting documents allowing teachers to adapt the planning to meet the needs of all children.

Within the scheme, there are opportunities for the children to revisit prior learning to aid their memory of concepts. It identifies key misconceptions, allowing teachers to predict them before they arise. The resources come with suggested concrete resources and visual representations that the teachers use and adapt within their planning.

All children will learn about:

  • addition and subtraction
  • multiplication and subtraction
  • place value
  • measurement
  • geometry
  • fractions
  • statistics

Resources

Children will be supported through the use of concrete resources, visual representations and images. This ranges from dienes to place value counters, shapes to fraction representations and groups of objects to drawn arrays. These resources will be used to support all learners and will change as they progress, with the aim of removing scaffolds when children have mastered a concept.

Maths at Home

Doodle

Children have access to the doodle platforms. They can access both Doodle Maths and Doodle Tables using their personalised log in details. These platforms identify the children’s knowledge through baseline assessments and they give the personalised learning, relevant to their area of development.

TTRS

Each child also has access to Times Tables Rockstars. On here they can practice their times tables using different game modes. We have a weekly competition to see which year group/ house has collected the most points.
