Welcome to Year 3!
The transition from Key Stage One to Key Stage Two in Year 3 can be both exciting and uncertain for pupils and families, and at Bramley we start working towards it in good time, with visits to the new class, and Transition Booklets which enable children to discuss their hopes and concerns with new teachers and staff. We spend a lot of time at the start of the year building up the children’s independence and stamina for working, and teachers particularly welcome feedback from parents to ensure children’s confidence develops in step with their progress across all areas of the curriculum.
In the Autumn term we learn about Planet Earth, focussing on the formation of Rocks and Fossils, culminating in the children presenting their learning in a documentary outcome event. A trip to Stonehenge adds to the fun! Other exciting topics later in the year are: Victorians, Walk like an Egyptian, Light and Shadows, Amazing St Lucia and the story of a River, during which we will be donning our wellies and exploring the river on the Vyne National Trust Property.
During the Spring Term the PE Curriculum includes small group swimming lessons delivered by qualified instructors at Tadley Pool. Whatever level of proficiency the children have prior to the instruction, they leave with a greater personal confidence, and real sense of pride and achievement in their aquatic skills.
Back in the school grounds, we will also complete some orienteering activities and maths skills, enabling us to maximise our outdoor learning.
